Artist Sophie Clague

Clague’s artistic practice revolves around the human desire to achieve balance and equilibrium in a world that is constantly transforming.  Her three-dimensional work possesses a linear, drawn quality yet are tied to their material weight. They are balanced, yet possess an ephemeral precariousness that reflects upon the fragility of the urban environment and the volatility of the natural environment. Clague explores the relationship of the built environment to human scale by amplifying the architectural structures of the body. These ‘landscapes’ ultimately question the tension that results from the interminable quest for balance and equilibrium in a world that is ultimately unstable.
